Katholieke Universiteit Leuven: a vivid history since 1425 in historic Leuven City

Whether it was the local beers, chocolates, atmosphere or the historic city center of Leuven, faculty members of the yearly workshops definitely felt homesick towards Leuven, urging us to host the anniversary workshop.

Although Leuven can be found on maps of the 9th century, the first walls of city were built in the 11-12th century, when Leuven developed as an important trading centre within the Duchy of Brabant. Its second important wave of expansion came along with the foundation of the university (1425). At present, Leuven is the capital of Flemish Brabant, known for its ‘university population atmosphere’, renovated old center and railway station area, and hometown of the world’s leading brewer (Inbev).

There will be plenty of time to visit the historic center of Leuven with many of the historic university buildings, the Town Hall, the Beguinage, the ‘Old Market’ and ‘Great Market’, many churches, and parks. And of course to enjoy one of the more than 200 different Belgian Beers in one of the pubs at and around the ‘Old Market’.

For those of you who would to enjoy Belgian Pop/Rock music, Marktrock 2008 takes place from 8-10th of August (in the city center)! Visit marktrock2008 website (sorry only in Dutch)

Faculty of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Sciences (FaBeR)

Since two of the local hosts received their PhD-training at this faculty, and the previous NATO courses were held there, we opted to organize this anniversary workshop again at the FaBeR AULA. Located just outside the Leuven ring road, you find the aula in the FaBeR university buildings (GDN) surrounded by sports facilities and the green banks of the Dijle.
